The Best CTS Pain Treatment

Thousands of people go on disability from work every year due to symptoms caused by carpal tunnel pain. This condition occurs when you do repetitive motions usually at work working on a computer. This can cause intense pain and discomfort as the tendons in the wrist become inflamed and swelling is soon to follow. Unfortunately, this condition severely limits what a person can on a daily basis.

While surgery is always an option it should never be your first as there are things you can do to help the pain and swelling and do them at home to boot. Try these options below and see how you fare:

As mentioned in my other articles, ice therapy can be one of the most effective and quickest way to relieve pain from CT. Since everyone has ice at home this is an option that can be done at any time. Ice is great for reducing the inflammation associated with carpal tunnel and thus reducing the pain that goes along with it.

The next very effective method to reduce pain from this condition is to wear a splint or a wrist brace. A splint can be made by placing two flat boards along the forearm and wrist above and below and wrapping them in tape or using some kind of bandage material. Don't make the wrapping too tight but the wrist should not be able to bend. As mentioned you can also buy a wrist glove which will do the same thing and is a lot easier to use.

If your pain is at a level where you can still use your computer then be sure to use some ergonomic sense when using it. Make sure that you use a gel pad type wrist support at the very least. Adding to that you can get an ergonomic keyboard to complement the wrist supports. And to finalize, stop every half an hour to and let your hands hang by your side and gently shake them out to rest your tendons.

You can also massage the affected area. Use herbal massage oil and rub in a circular motion for five to ten minutes everyday. This will help relieve the stress and hopefully reduce your pain and discomfort.

A Final Thought

Finally, there are OTC medications that can be quite effective at helping to reduce your inflammation and swelling. You will want to stay away from steroidal medications if you can. Some of the recommended meds are aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. These have been shown to be very effective in reducing pain for carpal tunnel.

Remember, this information is provided in an effort to give people with carpal tunnel syndrome an option to surgery. Surgery should always be a last option when dealing with this condition because there are just so many good options to try to heal this condition.
