3 Modern Success Stories
. . . And what do they eat? Before you're willing to even consider the fact you have an inner caveman lurking inside you, you may be hoping that somewhere there's proof this style of eating improves your health.
Three separate cultures are coming close to it -- and not surprisingly, they have the longest lifespan and are among the healthiest people on the planet.
No, it's definitely not politically correct to call the following three societies prehistoric. But I've termed them in this manner because of the diet they eat. The three population segments, as diverse as they are, have one factor in common: they all have the longest life spans in the world.
Not only that, their populations are virtually unscathed when it comes to suffering from modern degenerative diseases. Who are these people?
They are the Sardinians, residents of the Mediterranean island of Sardinia, the Okinawans, who live on the island of Okinawa off the coast of Japan, and a religious group, the Seventh Day Adventists. Each of these groups keeps a low-calorie diet composed primarily of fruits and vegetables.
If there's a diet that could be called the polar opposite of the Standard American Diet, then this one may be it. The Okinawans start by eating a minimum of seven servings of vegetables a day. In addition they eat two to four servings of fruit. (Are you with me so far?)
The group of islanders doesn't strictly follow the caveman pattern, though. They do eat some grains, mostly in the form of noodles, bread, and rice -- and just about all of them are whole grains.
The Sardinians and Seventh Day Adventists eat in a similar manner. And as a group, they not only experience an amazing longevity, but experience very few degenerative diseases such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and so on and so on. This diet has been shown to reduce high blood pressure, reduce high triglyceride counts because you are not eating starches and allows your body to better regulate insulin which helps the diabetic person.
According to many nutritionists, eating whole plant foods slows your body's digestive processes. This actually helps your body to absorb nutrients more effectively. And in the long run, this gives you a more balanced array of vitamins and minerals. Not only that, but a slow digestive process means your appetite is regulated and your blood sugar remains level.
Armed with all of this, you're well on your way to nourishing your inner caveman. You're beginning a new journey that will take you into the future healthier and with more vitality, by using the wisdom and evidence of the past. Ironic isn't it?
As you travel, you may encounter a few bumps in the road. Don't let that stop you. Don't let it discourage you. Just take your new eating habits, one meal at a time. You'll discover it's easy to keep on track this way!

A List Of Paleo Foods
Paleo Diet Guidelines
The Paleo diet, short for Paleolithic diet, is a nutritional regimen based on what is presumed to have been consumed by humans during the Paleolithic era, approximately 2.5 million years ago. The core principle of the diet is to adhere to the nutritional principles of cavemen who ate mainly vegetables, wild fruit, eggs, nuts and game meat. There are also strict limits on what foods to omit from the diet, with special concern for unnatural, processed food. Through complying with the standards of food heretofore described, you can cultivate peak health.
Wheat and grains should also be shunned as humans of the Neolithic period had yet to learn agriculture. Thus, products such as rice, corn, oats and wheat should not be consumed. Foods that are processed with these grains such as pastries, chips, pizza, pancakes, biscuits, oatmeal, spaghetti, cereal, bagels and bread should be eschewed as well. As cavemen did not drink milk after infancy, dairy products such as butter, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, creamer and dairy spreads should be avoided.
Despite the length and depth of food blacklisted in the diet, there are a number of foods that are allowed for a diverse and healthy diet. Advocates who have adhered to the paleo diet can attest to the range of paleo foods there is to choose from -- many are already on your list of routinely consumed foods. This includes lean meats such as pork loin, flank steak, lean veal, sirloin steak, lean hamburger, chicken breast, turkey breast and goat meat. Game meat is the most preferable meat for consumption. Game meat includes wild boar, goose, ostrich, quail and reindeer among others. As a rule meats that can be consumed are usually from pasture-raised and grass-fed animals. Eggs are acceptable as well. Fish lovers will be glad to hear of the extensive list of fish acceptable in the diet; this includes bass, cod, mackerel, tilapia and just about any other commercially available fish. Shellfish such as clams, lobster, oysters, shrimp and scallops are welcome as well.
Paleo foods are comprised of a vast variety of fruits and vegetables. Fair fruit include avocado, banana, cherries, grapes, lemon, honeydew, pears, watermelon and virtually any other fruit available in the wild. The diet is particular to non-starchy vegetables like broccoli, cabbage, beets, eggplant, cucumber, pumpkin, squash, lettuce, green onions, mushrooms, kohlrabi and peppers. Individuals with sweet-tooth’s can snack on dried fruit such as raisins and cranberries but don't over do it. As you can see, the list of Paleo foods is abundant.
A study conducted by researchers at the Department of Medicine in the University Of California San Francisco School Of Medicine found that after placing subjects in the paleolithic diet for just ten days, subjects showed improved blood pressure, decreases in insulin secretion, better glucose tolerance, increases in insulin sensitivity and improvements in lipid profiles. If this is what can happen in a mere ten days, just imagine the health benefits you can reap by sticking to the diet long term.

Foods Of The Paleo Diet
What To Eat And Not To Eat!
Now that you have decided to try the new Paleo diet that everyone is talking about, it is very important that you become well informed about what foods are encouraged and what foods are not acceptable. It isn’t as difficult to clarify both of these categories as one would think, for as long as you keep in mind that if it isn’t nutritious or beneficial to your body, it is probably not on the list of Paleo foods that are acceptable for the diet. However, there are some exceptions, along with some specific foods that this diet is centered around; furthermore, it is crucial to stick to these foods.
The food that is the heart of this diet is lean meat because it is filling and has a high protein value. Some of the meats that are included are all lean cuts of beef, pork, chicken and turkey. This would consist of cuts such as skinless turkey and chicken breast, beef London broil, beef tenderloin, T-bone steak, beef sirloin steak or roast, beef round steak, pork rib and center loin chops, pork tenderloin and top loin roasts. Eggs are an additional great source of protein as long as no more than six are consumed in a week.
Fish and seafood are on the Paleo list of foods because they are an equally good source of protein, plus they are rich in vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. Most of all, they are very low in fat and calories. Just a few of the types of fish and seafood recommended for those on the diet are , clams, lobster, scallops, shrimp, crab, trout, catfish, bass, crappie, sole fish, cod, eel, haddock, monkfish, albacore, mackerel, sword fish, red snapper, salmon, sea bass, halibut and tuna.
An additional source of protein that is not in the meat group but are encouraged as a Paleo food group are nuts and seeds. They are also chocked full of vitamins, minerals and healthy oils. Remember that salt is not healthy, so stick to unsalted nuts and seeds such as pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, flaxseeds, psyllium seeds, and sunflower seeds, cashews, pecans, hazelnuts, walnuts, pine nuts, pistachios, chestnuts, almonds, coconut and macadamia nuts.
Last but not least, fruits and vegetables are a huge part of the Paleo diet. Not only are they healthy, but also add lots of variety to the diet. Every single kind of fruit is encouraged and is on the food list including bananas, star fruit, pineapple, berries and citrus fruits. Absolutely no fruits are eliminated. Some of the Paleo vegetable foods include celery, beets, onions, pumpkin, squash, peppers, tomatoes, artichokes, broccoli, carrots, eggplant, leafy greens, radishes, cabbage and turnips. Almost all vegetables are recommended for the diet with the exception of all types of potatoes.
While there is a large amount of different kinds of foods allowed for those on the Paleo diet, there are with out a doubt some foods that you must steer clear of. Dairy foods, cereals and grains, beans and other legumes, starchy foods such as potatoes, large amounts of salt, meat fat, drinks with sugar and all sweets should be avoided. In spite of this, there are numerous foods included on the list for this diet that are both perfect for satisfying snack cravings and for using in recipes. The many different kinds of delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner meals that can be made from Paleo foods are simply endless.

Eat Like A Caveman
Typically when we think of cavemen, we think about clubs, animal skins, and long straggly hair. But no one ever thinks about the caveman’s diet and how it mainly consisted of the healthy and pure foods.
The cavemen that lived before the agricultural age were, in many ways, extremely fit and athletic people. They were hunters and gatherers forced to walk for long distances in search for large game animals, fruits, berries, and nuts. Once food became scarce in one area, they relocated in order to find better provisions somewhere else.
The Paleolithic diet or Paleo diet is probably the oldest diet around. Farming of wheat and other plants did not exist until about 10,000 years ago. The Paleolithic Era ended about 20,000 years ago. Because genes take hundreds of thousands of years to adapt a person’s metabolism and physiology to different lifestyles, it is easy to understand why people have such digestive problems with the grains, legumes, and dairy products that weren’t available during the Paleolithic Era.
The Paleolithic diet calls for eliminating all packaged and processed foods. These types of foods include all wheat and cereal grains, bagels, breads, pastry, donuts, cookies, crackers, etc. All of these kinds of foods were not available during the days of the caveman. Since the caveman did not eat dairy products, the Paleolithic diet also eliminates foods like milk, butter, cheese, yogurt, etc. However, that does not mean that you are out of food options. Cavemen ate a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Plus, they ate a lot of animal protein.
However, the meat that cavemen ate consisted of lean cuts. Plus, the animals that they ate were obviously not fed a diet of hormones. On the Paleo diet, it is important to consume meats that come from animals that were grass and pasture fed. Lean cuts of meat include chuck steak, London broil, lean pork, pork chops, pork loin, flank steak, top sirloin steak and lean beef as long as all of the visible fat is removed. You can even eat extra-lean hamburgers as long as they contain no more than 7 percent fat. You can also eat poultry like chicken breast, game-hem breast, and turkey breast. In addition, you can eat some types of organ meats like beef, lamb, pork, and chicken livers. Plus, if you’re up for it, try eating beef, lamb, and pork tongues. Cavemen also ate eggs, so feel free to eat eggs as long as you limit yourself to a maximum of six eggs a week.
The Paleolithic diet gives your body a chance to absorb nutrients more effectively. You are able to give your body a more balanced array of vitamins and minerals. Plus, filling your diet with fresh plants and lean meat slows your body’s digestive process down. This accomplishes two things. One, a slow digestive process maintains a level blood sugar level. Plus, a slower digestive process means that your appetite is regulated; you stay fuller longer, decreasing the amount that you eat and more importantly, how much you over eat.

Paleo Meals You Can Make
These Recipes Are Great!
There has been a growing demand for Paleo recipes. So many people are switching to a Paleo diet. They are very simple to make and people love them. Paleo meals contain meats that you can choose to bake, poach, stew, or sear. Paleo meals also contain a side of vegetables. There are so many variations. You can take basic recipes and create delicious meals.
Steak and eggs is always a crowd favorite. Now you can make an easy Paleo meal that will make your taste buds happy and keep your diet healthy. You can make this popular dish with just a few ingredients. You will use a large steak, two eggs, two to three tablespoons of tallow or ghee, and paprika. The paprika is optional. Heat two tablespoons of tallow or ghee in a pan over medium heat. If you like paprika, this is the time to use it. Sprinkle on both sides of the steak.
Place your steak in the pan and cook for four minutes on each side. This will give you a medium-rare steak. If you like your steak well done, cook a little longer, as needed. Once you have cooked your steak just the way you like it, remove it from the pan. Now you will crack your eggs and place them into the same pan. Cook your eggs until the whites are no longer transparent. All finished! You can dip your steak into the egg yolk if you want an extra special delight.
If you are a seafood lover, you are in for a treat. The grilled scallops in red pepper sauce are delicious. They are not only scrumptious, but easy to make as well. Again, just a few ingredients are needed. For this dish, you will need twelve large bay scallops, one-tablespoon coconut oil, and one lemon. For the red pepper sauce, you will need one large roasted red pepper, one clove of garlic, juice from half of the lemon, and two tablespoons of olive oil.
You will start by squeezing lemon juice over the scallops and letting them sit. You will create a smooth sauce by putting all the ingredients for the sauce in a food processor and mixing. Pour the sauce in a saucepan and place over medium heat. Once the sauce is heating, use a grill pan and brush it with the coconut oil. When the grill pan is hot, add the scallops, and cook three to four minutes on each side. Once the scallops are finished, place them on a plate and pour the delicious red pepper sauce over it. Your meal is complete.
Chicken is always a good choice. You can make a very nutritious and satisfying meal with just three ingredients. Chicken legs and angel hair cabbage is very simple to make. You will need chicken legs, green onion, and angel hair cabbage. That is it. Just three ingredients! You will begin by cooking your chicken legs in a small amount of water, over medium-high heat. Remove them from the pan when they are done.
You have now created a delicious chicken broth from the water your chicken legs were cooking in. Add the green onion and angel hair cabbage to your chicken broth. You will want to cook your green onions and angel hair cabbage until they are soft, but not mushy. Cook over medium heat. Once complete, add the chicken back on top. You are ready for a delicious meal.
The Paleo diet is so versatile. The possibilities are endless. Many vegetables and meats work with the Paleo diet. If you are able to figure out which recipe you love the most, you can then top it off with a variety of fresh fruits for dessert!

Is It The Best Diet?
The Paleo diet is all about improving the quality of your modern diet. It is based on the theory that today’s genes are actually the result of life conditions that were formed more than a million years ago in our evolution -- the era of the caveman.
Since farming and the cultivation of plants like wheat have only been in existence for about 10,000 years, our bodies have not adapted to properly digest these food sources. It takes far longer for humans to adapt their metabolism and physiology to different lifestyles. Humans have not had enough time to adapt our genes to eating grains, legumes and dairy products, which is why so many people have had so many digestive issues with the typical diet of today’s society.
The Paleo diet is based around what the cavemen typically ate: fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. This means staying away from processed foods. In a nutshell, the Paleo diet teaches you that if it comes in a box, don’t eat it. However, there are many foods that the Paleo diet is based around. A key to the Paleo diet is eating lean cuts of meat. You can also eat some kinds of organ meats like liver and tongues. Although the cavemen did not indulge themselves in a diet of dairy products, they did eat eggs. However, you should limit yourself to six eggs a week.
Nuts can also be enjoyed while following the Paleo diet. They are great sources of monounsaturated fats which are the “good” kinds of fats. Nuts help to lower cholesterol, reduce the risk of heart disease and are also credited with reducing
the risk of some cancers like breast cancer. However, if you are following the Paleo diet in order to loose weight, you should limit the amount of nuts that you eat. Nuts also contain calories. But as you stay on this diet, your metabolism will increase, which means that you can eat more nuts later on.
While a great guideline for the foods to stay away from is that if it comes in a box, don’t eat it, there are other off-limit foods in the Paleo diet that do not “come in a box.” As you might guess, the cavemen did not have soda machines in their caves, so sugary drinks like soda are off limits. Actually, sugar is off limits entirely. That includes syrups and sweeteners. Because grains are not consumed on the Paleo diet, all food products that are made with grains are off limits, as well including pancakes, cookies, pasta, rolls, etc. Plus, because the cavemen did not eat dairy foods like butter, cheese, cream, etc., they are also off limits.
Although the Paleo diet limits many typical food choices, there are plenty of benefits to following this diet. The Paleo diet is mainly made up of high-protein meals. Research shows that if the average person eats a high-protein diet for six months, they could loose between ten to fifteen pounds. That’s without increasing physical activity. You could loose even more weight if you increased your physical activity, making the Paleo diet a great choice for anyone who wants to loose weight or who just wants to become overall healthier.

The Healthiest Diet Is The Oldest
Nourishing Your Inner Caveman
We all have an inner caveman. The vast majority of us just don't realize it and that the healthiest diet is the oldest one.
An inner caveman who's craving foods he ate during the prehistoric era. It probably contradicts all your stereotypes, but the prehistoric man who lived before the advent of agriculture was, in many ways, an extremely fit, athletic person. Usually, we think “caveman” and we think disease and deprivation.
That isn't necessarily so. I can't actually confirm that every caveman had six-pack abs, though some authors claim this is so.
But they were fit. They walked for long distances in search of big game; they walked in search of fruits, berries, and nuts. And when the food dwindled in one location, they migrated to find a better place to live (a new cave home if you will).
As you might have already surmised, this new eating plan I'm presenting you really isn't new at all. In fact, it's probably the oldest diet around. It's based on the theory that the genes we modern humans possess are actually the result of life conditions which formed more than a million years ago in our evolution, even before the advent of agriculture.
Farming, the cultivation of wheat and other plants, did not even exist until approximately 10,000 years ago. The Paleolithic Era, the period from which this eating plan is derived, ended about 20,000 years ago.
We now place those two statements together with the fact that genes take hundreds of thousands of years at a minimum -- and two million years at most -- to adapt their metabolism and physiology to different lifestyles. That means we're still working with a system that's more comfortable with a non-agricultural diet.
The bottom line is this: the 10,000 years since the advent of farming is not nearly enough time for our genes to adapt to not only grains, but legumes and dairy products. Now you can see why so many people have so many digestive issues with today's diet.
Let's just take one example, that of refined white sugar -- not even available to your prehistoric ancestor. Today, it appears to be a staple of the American diet. Think I'm exaggerating? Just read the following statistic. It'll get you thinking a little deeper about how we eat.
The average American consumes (now get this!) between two to three pounds of sugar in a week. In the last decade -- a short 10 years! -- the consumption of refined sugar has increased from approximately 26 pounds per person yearly to a whopping 135! The sad part is, most of us don't even know that we're eating that much.
And that's only one contributor to our current diet. Multiply these by all the other foods and additives, and it's no wonder we have a nation of heart problems, diabetes, arthritis, and cancer sufferers! Today, the average American eats 31 percent more processed and packaged foods than fresh foods. Can you believe that?
